Data Darbar food

Published April 23, 2014

THE tomb of Hazrat Ali Bin Usman Hajvery is surely the most frequented place in Lahore. For the devotees, it is the spiritual face of the city.

During my recent visit to the tomb I got an opportunity to visit the ‘langar’ which is established in the basement. Here free food is distributed among the needy.

It has two separate sections for men and women with railings placed on either side to make proper queues.

However, what I find wanting is that there is no arrangement for consuming the food.

The food items are simply handed over to the people through service windows and then they are on their own. I think the tomb has reasonable income.

If private enterprises like the Bahria Dastar Khwan can provide arrangements to the needy for eating food, why can’t the management of Data Darbar/Punjab Auqaf Department do the same? An area with adequate seating arrangements may be earmarked for the people.
