APROPOS your news report, “Retirees` reappointment goes against SC orders” (April 13), by reappointing retired officials the government has not only defied court orders but serving officials have also been deprived of promotion. They had been waiting for their turn for years in the hierarchy.
According to the report, the government is in search of dedicated and committed professionals to fill top vacant positions, and the prime minister is considering nothing but merit and eligibility.
Ironically, no human resource planning is carried out before creating or filling up jobs. This backfires in the shape of overstaffing and organisational collapse. Organisations such as the Pakistan Steel Mills and PIA are worst examples in this regard.
If the government is bent upon reappointing retired officials, it should prefer extending the age of superannuation as much as it likes and apologise to the youth for not creating job opportunities for them.
